You can help a family in their transition from the evacuees' shelter to their own home. Your generous donations of clothing, kitchen and general household items and other supplies will help get them started with their new lives.
Friends, just follow these easy steps:
1. Take a look at the left sidebar. You'll see links to posts with descriptions of families in need and their wish lists. Practical information will be included such as how many are in the family, clothing and shoe sizes, and what they require for household items.
You can also use the 'Category' section on the left sidebar to view links to posts with these items on the family's wish lists. For example, if you have children's clothing you wish to donate, just click on the 'Children' link for all the blog postings requesting items for kids.
2. You'll also find an address in each post to ship your donations. This will be a church/organization/individual who work directly with our project and the families. We do this to protect the privacy of the families. Rather than disclosing their identities and location, we will use a code and/or an anonymous reference such as 'Family #3' or 'Family to Family Donation'.
3. For your convenience, we have provided links to shippers and online retailers on the right sidebar. You'll find that using online stores can be a real time saver. Our families will also welcome clean, gently used and operational items and household appliances for their wish lists.
4. Be sure to indicate the code/reference for the family on the address line of the shipping statement, or, if you're packaging the donation yourself, write the code/reference on the outside of the package and add a note with the code/reference within the package contents.
That's all you need to do!
Please let us know if you have any questions about the donation procedures. Just send an email to the blog keeper, Grace Davis - gracedb@yahoo.com, and we'll get back to you promptly.
Much gratitude and many blessings to you!

Suggested addition to the blog: a list of chain stores and restaurants that are in the area addressed by this site. That way, if folks send gift certificates, they can try to make sure they're for stores that y'all can access easily.

BAY ST LOUIS/WAVELAND, MS - Many of our families are starting over at ground zero. Stores such as Home Depot, Lowe's and Wal-Mart are within driving distance and offer much-needed material, supplies, etc. Gift cards to such stores are an ideal solution for both givers and receivers. Thank you EVERYONE for the prayers and support you have given our community during this rough time.

If the Lord blesses me, my family of 4 will be moving to our own apt. in Mississippi in 2 weeks. We are in need of furniture, appliances, electronics, linen, etc. Please advise of any available services that may help.

I have a small house in Holden, LA that is empty and needs someone to live in it. The only thing is, it needs repairs. Whoever moves into it needs to be good at carpentry, plumbing, etc. It is free to stay in for anyone who can fix it up themselves. You would have to pay for your own electricity and water, but no rent if you can to the work on the house. We would provide the building materials and tools. email: chilly@i-55.com

I am a single mom of a teenage daughter and live on the MS coast. I have been unable to get any Hurricane disaster assistance, because I was divorced in months following Katrina. My ex-husband is receiving Fema assistance because he owned the house prior to the storm. My daughter & I are are sharing a small room at a friends house. We lost all of our furniture. We were able to salvage some of our clothes. We have been unable to find affordable housing. The properties available have been priced so high the even a 2 income family would have a difficult time coming up with the rent. I'm not sure if there is any assistance available for someone in our situation. I'm running out of ideas.

My family and I were totally devastated by Hurricane Katrina. I have three children; Ashleigh, Andrew, and Nickolas (12, 10, 9)! We were living in a FEMA trailer but recently started renting a home. Unfortunatly, we lost all of our furniture in the storm. We are in need of a dining room table with 5 chairs, 2 twin beds w/mattresses. Any help with clothing ad kitchen supplies would be great as well.
Thank You And God Bless All That Help,
The Homrighausen Family

Hello, I would like to know and by know means is this meant in a terrible way. I have several thingsI can donate, but how do we(I)know if the persons or people need what they say? I know there are alot and I helped give out food and stuff after the storm, but I also(and hate to admit)former friend that worked every yr at the fire station handing out toys, and dinners and come to find out, what she put back for her kids and familys and their familys, well none of it went to anyone that really needed it. Her and her husband both had jobs and had older children and made things seem they needed and had to get.It just wasnt material things, before you knew it, she had raised enough cane and had her power and food delivery from everywhere and anybody. It just put sour taste in my mouth. Since all this happen, My grandmother had gotten down and she had told us some stuff to do, and not 1.. and i mean 1 person was able to help, no help with power, food ,supplies or nothing and I mean nothing. so Im not being ugly or assuming anyone is not need of asst.I would just like to knowhow and what to do and make sure its to the ones it should go too. I went threw a bad marriage and 2 sm children and getting help was a war from start to finish, so I know how things can be.. so thank you for your time and you can contact me at this email pitgirlt8@yahoo.com or one thats giving with this mail.. thanks again
